Marketing to me is not only about numbers and formulae. It is about having the deepest possible understanding about a continuously shifting and dynamic social, economic and technological environment coupled with an ability to tie that knowledge back to company priorities in terms of accountable objectives such as numbers, formulae and indeed ROI and profitability.

To a Marketer, study of his / her end target, whoever that may be is like a second nature. Habits, consumption, media, technology, social norms apart from specific demographic indicators become specific action objectives in the short, medium and long term and finds manifestation in numbers and Go to Market plans. At the end of the day, this rather complicated process needs to be simplified into - knowledge, objectives, strategy, plan and above all execution.

 

 

All the knowledge in the world can come to an absolute nought if not executed properly. Execution is about the passion you bring in to implement knowledge. Its a continuous process without breaks and pitstops and what separates the good plan from the rest. Marketers have to be ready for the long run, have convictions without being rigid, be consummate team players and be able to take a cross section of functions ahead in a cohesive manner that results in a heightened possibility of success.

 

 

They say that practice makes perfection. And therefore, experience is the key. Years of honing ones skills in a dynamic environment reduces the chances of failure while not eliminating them completely. A good marketer gathers experience on the way and is able to bring experience into practice when the situation demands it.

 

 

This experience, passion and indeed knowledge is what I bring to the table. That, and a continuous urge for self improvement that has consistently kept me out of being boxed into stereotypes. In my current avataar, I am an entrepreneur, helping Individuals, SMEs and larger companies make Go To Market plans that encompass both on line and off line paradigms. My colleagues and I not only help them plan, but in most cases, we take complete responsibility and accountability for their execution through in house and market collaborations. These assignments have ranged from Research, Identity and Brand, Offline Marketing and Events and a plethora of Online (Digital) marketing assignments that have ranged from simplistic Social Media management to far more complicated aspects of SEO, SEM, Video, Programatic and the required Content and Technology Development.
